長い年月、ジニー社長とご主人の鶴見さんを車で送り迎えしてきた、コンドミニアムとついにお別れのときがやってきました。

すべての鍵、そしてパーキングのガレージキーも、お二人の相続を担当される弁護士の方へとお渡しし、乗り換え用に置いていた私の車も、静かにその場所を離れました。

朝、お迎えにあがると「おはようございます」。
一日が終わり、お送りすると「お疲れさまでした。また明日ね」。
そんなふうに交わす何気ない言葉に、どれほど励まされ、癒されてきたことでしょう。
車が見えなくなるまで、いつも変わらず笑顔で手を振ってくださったお二人。
私も、窓を開けて、ぎりぎりまで手を振り返していました。
まるでその日のお別れが、いつも「最後」のように感じてしまうほど、大切な瞬間でした。

気がつけば、そんな日々が、いつの間にか「歳月」という名の宝箱の中に、そっとしまわれていたのです。玄関に響く足音。杖をついて、ゆっくり歩まれるお姿。
手を取り合いながら、一歩ずつ確かめるように進まれるお二人の背中。
エレベーターまで、そっと手を添えてご案内したあの日々。
あふれる笑い声、ちいさな言い合い、そして、ふとこぼれた涙。
時折訪れる静けさまでも、すべてが、この場所の空気に染み込んで、日常の一部になっていました。

ここで交わしたたくさんの言葉。
心からの笑顔、そして、胸の奥に残る、ほんの少しの涙。
そのひとつひとつが、私にとっても、かけがえのない、大切な思い出です。

「一区切り」とは、決して終わりではなく、新しい始まりの合図――
そうわかっていても、やっぱり少しだけ、胸が締めつけられるような寂しさがあります。ジニー社長、鶴見さん、そして、このコンドミニアム。何度も出入りしたあの駐車場にも。
心からの「ありがとう」を、そっと手を合わせるような気持ちで伝えたいと思います。

どうか、これから始まる新しい章にも、
やさしく穏やかな時間が、あたたかく流れていきますように。
そう願わずにはいられません。

A Time of Closure

After many years of driving President Jeannie and Mr. Tsurumi to and from their residence, the time has finally come to say goodbye to that familiar condominium.

All the keys, including the parking garage remote, have now been handed over to the attorney managing their estate. Even the car I used to keep nearby for transfers has quietly left that place.

Every morning, when I arrived to pick them up, they would greet me with a warm “Good morning.”
At the end of the day, when I dropped them off, they would say, “Thank you for today. See you tomorrow.”
Such simple, everyday exchanges — and yet, how deeply they encouraged and comforted me.

Until my car was out of sight, they would always stand there, smiling and waving.
And I, too, would roll down the window and wave back until the very last moment, as if each parting might be our final farewell.That’s how precious those moments felt to me.

Before I knew it, those days had quietly nestled themselves into a treasure chest called “time.”

The sound of footsteps echoing at the entrance.
The gentle pace of their walk, one with a cane.
The two of them supporting each other, taking each step with care.
The days I guided them to the elevator, offering my hand.
Their laughter, their playful arguments, the tears that sometimes appeared,
and the occasional stillness —

all of it soaked into the air of that place and became part of everyday life.

So many words we shared there.
Smiles from the heart, and a few quiet tears that lingered deep within.
Each and every one is a memory I hold dear — irreplaceable and precious.

“Closure” is not the end, but a signal of a new beginning.
Even so, I can’t help but feel a small ache in my heart.

To President Jeannie, to Mr. Tsurumi, to that condominium, and even to the parking lot I visited so often —
I want to offer my deepest thanks,
as if placing my hands together in quiet gratitude.

I hope with all my heart that the new chapter ahead
will be filled with gentle, peaceful, and warm days.
That is my sincerest wish.
